A Little Bit About Me:

Hi everyone! My name is Harlee, and I’m super excited to be starting my college journey at San Diego State University. Moving from Oahu to San Diego is a big change for me, but I’m looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing a different environment.

One of the biggest parts of my identity is where I come from. I was born and raised (for the most part) in Texas. Once I got to high school, I moved to Hawai’i to live with my dad. Living there has shaped who I am in so many different ways. It has taught me how to appreciate community, relationships, culture, and the environment. I already know that being away from there will make me love it even more, but I definitely needed a change of scenery.

Another important part of my life is volleyball. I’ve been playing volleyball since 7th grade, and being part of a team has taught me the importance of commitment, communication, and being supportive. In my opinion, volleyball is a very outgoing sport when it comes to the girls on the team. Based on my experience, the girls I have met through volleyball have become some of my closest relationships today. Although I did not continue my volleyball journey here with the SDSU women’s volleyball program, I still plan to play for fun and continue to create new connections through my favorite sport.

Another really important part of my life is music. I listen to music pretty much every day. I listen to a very wide variety of genres because I enjoy how different songs can match different moods and memories. I’m not kidding when I say I listen to music a lot. Whether I’m getting ready in the morning, driving somewhere, hanging with friends, or relaxing by myself, I’m usually listening to music. Music is something that can bring people together because everyone connects with different songs. I think music will be one of the things that helps me stay comfortable and connected while I’m adjusting to the college life.

Coming to San Diego State University, I had to develop a career plan for myself. Although I applied as undecided, I have now made the decision to major in public health. The reason I chose public health is because I want to pursue a career in radiology. My end goal is to eventually become an X-ray or ultrasound technician. I chose this because I researched how much money people in this field make and it is quite a lot. It’s also not as much school as any other medical field. I’m excited to explore the different opportunities in healthcare and figure out which path in radiology is best fit for me.
